Annual Report 2009 "Connections"

The connections that we make in our lives every day unite us with our families, friends, workplaces and interests in ways that enhance our live and communities. The work of the regional assets also serves to connect us with experiences and emotions that improve, motivate and guide our individual lives and our region.
The year 2009 saw the District break the $1 billion grantmaking mark in a time challenged by a significant economic downturn. A review of the assets' accomplishments for the year demonstrates, however, that the assets were no less committed to providing excellent programming and facilities.
In 2009:
15 million people experienced the assets
709,833 free admissions brought the assets to those who might not otherwise be able to attend
6,241 people were employed by the assets
$357 million was contributed by the assets to our local economy in direct expenses
10,971,277 million items circulated at the regional libraries
The annual report Connections looks at some of the many ways that the regional assets created meaningful connections in 2009. It also contains reports on finances and accountability, and a full list of grantees for 2009.
RAD 2008 Annual Report
Setting Records
2008 was a record year for the Allegheny Regional Asset District in many ways.
First, it was the best revenue year ever in the District's 14 year history. As a result, the Board of Directors, provided a record-level of grants - $83.4 million - to sustain and enhance our regional assets.
Second, 2008 was a banner year for many of the regional assets in terms of new attendance and programming records. The Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh set a new record for annual admissions at its four museums. The Mattress Factory created new installations by a record 53 artists. The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh set a mark for record participation in its summer reading programing, demonstrationg the region's love of literature and the desire to connect. And new babies - a tiger cub, two elephants and six beavers - arrived at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, which had the highest attendance in a single month in Zoo history last August.
While 2008 closed foretelling challenging times ahead, the regional assets remain an important element of the quality of life in our region. The people who live and visit our country, through their support, are helping to secure our assets' place in our future.

Annual Report 2007
RAD is pleased to release the year 2007 annual report, Renaissance and Renewal, detailing grants and highlighting asset accomplishments and activities.
As the community began its 250th birthday party, RAD renewed its 13 year commitment to sustain and enhance assets with nearly $78 million in operating and capital grants - the largest District budget ever. RAD also announced a new program in 2007, the first Renaissance Grants, a category designed to showcase the work of the assets on specific projects of value to them and to the community. The first group of Renaissance Grants are underway now, creating projects in honor of the region's 250th birthday and its theme Imagine What You Can Do Here.
With support from the public through RAD, our regional assets are well-positioned to celebrate our achievements and attract visitors to imagine what they can do here as well.
