The hallmark of District grants is unrestricted operating funds. RAD operating grants to assets can be used for all of the basics, like staff, utilities and maintenance.
Since 1995, and by the end of 2019, RAD has provided $2 billion in operating and capital grants to more than 100 diverse organizations (see RAD's funding history to date, in pdf). That sum includes $93.7 million in capital grants for parks maintenance, repairs and new projects; trails improvements; and discretionary projects like accessibility, critical infrastructure and equipment. RAD funds also have made possible special collaborations among assets that have contributed to budget savings and audience development.
The District will support three major grant categories in 2019:
Contractual Assets - organizations selected in 1994 for 10-year funding commitments that were reauthorized for five additional years in 2005, 2010 and 2015;
Annual Assets - organizations that apply for support on an annual basis;
Multi-Year Assets - grants with commitments for more than one year of commitments beyond the contractual asset period.
(Additional RAD support for Accessibility/Inclusion and Connection projects comes through the Special Project Grants program, with $250,000 available for 2019.
Finally, in honor of its 25th Anniversary, RAD introduced the RADical ImPAct Grant program in 2019.)
