RADical Days 2022 to offer 5+ weeks of free events, experiences throughout Allegheny County

RAD’s annual ‘thank you’ to taxpayers begins next month, offering a record 75+ events at regional assets free of charge
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – RADical Days are coming back one month from today, bringing more free events and experiences to the community than ever before.
RADical Days, the Allegheny Regional Asset District’s annual ‘thank you’ to taxpayers, will include more than 75 free events at more than 65 entities that receive RAD funding. From free admission to top-level attractions to free performances by world-class musicians, RADical Days 2022 will provide something for everyone from Friday, September 9 through Sunday, October 16.
"This is a celebration of taxpayers for taxpayers, and RADical Days 2022 will have something fantastic for all of us to experience," said Rich Hudic, RAD Executive Director. "After all, RAD is for everyone."

Highlights include free admission days to beloved local institutions, including:
- Heinz History Center (Sept. 10)
- National Aviary (Sept. 11 & 12)
- Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History (Sept. 11)
- Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens (Sept. 12)
- The Andy Warhol Museum (Sept. 15)
- Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium (Oct. 2)
- Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh (Oct. 3)
- Carnegie Science Center (Oct. 9)
- The Frick Pittsburgh (Oct. 16)
Visitors will also get a behind-the-scenes look at major facilities like the David L. Lawrence Convention Center (Sept. 9), Acrisure Stadium (Oct. 10) and PNC Park (Oct. 15).
RAD is a major funder of arts & culture organizations, and those groups will be showing their gratitude to taxpayers. City Theatre (Clyde’s – Sept. 25), South Park Theatre (The 39 Steps – Sept. 24), New Hazlett Theater (Somewhere Strange – Oct. 14) Pittsburgh Opera (Sept. 11 & Oct. 8), Pittsburgh Public Theater (A Raisin in the Sun – 7PM on Oct. 16) and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (Oct. 11) are among the assets providing free tickets.
"The free admissions and performances are diverse, accessible and open to all. We hope that more people than ever get out and experience the many offerings during RADical Days," said Dusty Elias Kirk, RAD Board chair. "RADical Days are for everyone and a great opportunity for those who might otherwise not be able to attend."
Allegheny County Parks will continue to offer free events into the fall, highlighted by an afternoon performance by the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra on Sept. 10 in the parking lot of the Boyce Park Wave Pool.
Rivers of Steel and Riverlife will be part of RADical Days for the first time, as they began to receive RAD funding in 2022. Focusing on the Black Experience in the Steel Valley, Rivers of Steel will offer free tours of the Carrie Blast Furnaces on Sept. 18. Riverlife will offer a free performance of Rumbón de la Calle at Allegheny Landing on Pittsburgh’s North Shore on Sept. 25.
Other new events for 2022 include free shows at the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s “Backyard” stage in Downtown Pittsburgh, a free performance by Squonk Opera on the Rachel Carson Bridge (Sept. 14), the launch of the August Wilson African American Cultural Center’s Beyond the Red Door: A Theatrical Event Series (Sept. 24), a behind-the-scenes preview of Quantum Theatre’s Baroque opera “Idaspe” (Sept. 25) and the return of the Historic Pittsburgh Fair at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh in Oakland (Oct. 15).
